Koh Phi Phi islands are situated about 48 Km south-east of Phuket Island in the Andaman Sea and 42 km south from Krabi Town and 40 km from Ao Nang Beach. It takes between 1 1/2 to 3 hours depending on the type of boat you choose to reach Phi Phi. On a daily basis boats leave from Phuket, Ao Nang and the Chao Far Pier in Krabi Town to Phi Phi. Nopparat (Nopparat beach) positioned on the land 18 km north-west of Krabi town. The park covers 390 square kilometres of land and sea areas.

The coastal part of Phi Phi Islands are comprises by steep, lightly vegetated cliffs rising vertically from the seabed and hidden bays concealing petite, pristine beaches and calm clear waters.

40% of the land region is covered by evergreen forest. It has Limestone Mountains with uncovered land surfaces which do not match the nature of forest, and thus forests here are not productive. In the park you may find Mangrove forests, coconut groves and bamboos.

The weather of this Island is basically hot and moist. South-west monsoon comes in May to October. The monsoon brings storms and heavy rains. January to April is the best time to visit the Island.

2. Phi Phi Ley is the second largest island; however accommodations are not permitted to be built on the island due to its status as a national marine park. Access to the different bays is by longtail boat only since the island is made up of very sheer cliff faces.

3. Bida Nog and Bida Nai is the 2 tiny islands in the group which gives the best diving in the region. There are no beaches in these 2 islands and so the reason to go there is purely to enjoy the coral reef. It would take hardly 2 minutes to drive around both islands by boat.

Bida Nai and Bida Nog are not accessible by car, train or planes. You can only get to these islands by boat. Longtail boats can take you from one island to another or you can go by speedboats that are operated by the dive centres in order to reach your destination.

4. Bamboo and Moskito Islands are located at the furthest northern part of Phi about 45 minutes from Ton Sai Town.

Bamboo Island

Bamboo Island is just one of the many tourist destinations on Phi Phi Island. While all the islands and attractions around the area have something special to offer, Bamboo Island has something that has added special things to share with tourists. The area is unoccupied, and therefore has the most immaculate, unspoiled beaches known to man. This makes Bamboo Island Phi Phi Island is one of the most relaxing spots in Thailand.

Bamboo Island has beautiful sandy beaches but no accommodation available for tourists. Tents are available for rent from the National Marine Park however.

There is also a 200 baht NMP fee to visit.

Moskito Island

Do you know why is Koh Yung Island called as Mosquito Island? It is so called because you may find black clouds of mosquitoes all around the island after sunset, so most visitors are long gone before sunset. People mainly susceptible to mosquito bites should stay far away from the island at sunset and may even want to consider other islands for day trips.

Moskito Island on the other hand is made up of sheer rocks somewhat similar to Phi Phi Ley but smaller. There are 2 small beaches, but the mosquitoes tend to keep the people away. However the snorkeling is good here.
