The
Coral ReefThese reefs are found around the world and they are worsening at a shocking rate. Predictably these reefs cover 284,300 square kilometers. A yearly some esteemed at $50 billion to $100 billion i.e. one-fifth of all animal protein consumed by humans comes from aquatic environments. Prediction says that upon 70% of the world's corals will disappear in 50 years. So this may cause big effect in fish and invertebrate populations, as a result the coral reefs will be used as a source of safety and food.
Decisions can make things to differ We feel that this is the only way to frontward tourism and it can be maintained through practices being an eco tour dive company. We feel knowledge about reefs can be endorsed and educated to visitors by airlines, travel agents, hotel groups, tour operators, snorkeling companies, fishing charters and by many other tourism related businesses as they have direct contact and arrangement with visitors and hence they can make changes in the tactics which will in turn protect the reefs. The below listed projects have been organized as a method to make the people aware of the issues that cause damage to the world's coral reefs. Altogether the options made for the visitors may fully vary. Questions like “What company will you choose to dive with? “, and “What kind of travel agent will you book with? “, will arise in the visitors mind. Sustainable tourism is the way of the future.
Artificial Reef - Phi Phi Island To form a new artificial reef DMCR provided 100 concrete blocks in July 2006. The blocks were assembled into 3 large pyramids, in the expectation of creating a new interesting dive site. 1 year later, mollusks and bivalves have been covered by blocks and have fascinated over 50 kinds of fish and many other types of inverts. The artificial reef site which is situated next to the coral reef has attracted many divers who wished to learn more about it and has done a great job.
Coral Nursery Phuket Marine Biology Center, which is supported by The Adventure Club, installed an underwater floating coral nursery in April 2006. Israel National Institute of Oceanography researchers who participated in a cooperative research project with the PMBC and researchers from 4 other countries, UK, Italy, Singapore, and Philippines, under the programme “Developing ubiquitous practices for restoration of Indo-Pacific reefs”, REEFRES, supported by European Commission got the idea of coral nursery. The first nursery was home to 1500 fragments which have since been transplanted to the concrete blocks and also natural substrates in 2006. In February 2007 the next nursery was set up and in October we needed the help of at least 20 experienced divers to help transplant the corals to the natural reef area which is known as Table Coral City.
